Navigating Drone Regulations with SAIRS: Updated Guidelines and Certifications

Current Regulations: Transport Canada oversees drone operations in Canadian airspace. Recent updates include the exemption of drones under 250 grams from the basic license requirement and registration. For agricultural operations on the Canadian prairies, a certified RPAS pilot with either a basic or advanced designation is generally required.

SAIRS' Compliance and Expertise: As SAIRS' primary pilot, Kevin holds an advanced pilot's certificate issued by Transport Canada. We emphasize compliance with all relevant regulations to ensure the safety and legality of our operations. SAIRS also carries liability insurance on all RPAS operations, providing an added layer of security for our clients.

Pioneering Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Operations: In 2020, SAIRS achieved a significant milestone by obtaining a site-specific Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC) for drone operations using the senseFly eBee. This BVLOS certification, one of the earliest issued in Western Canada, underscores SAIRS' commitment to pushing the boundaries of drone capabilities safely and responsibly.
